GREETING

Hello, I am Nam Sookyong,
Director of the Education Research Institute.

Since its establishment in 1989, KERI has continued to grow, specializing and focusing its efforts around three core centers: ‘Education Finance Center,’ ‘Regional Education Cooperation Center,’ and ‘Future Education Center.’

EDUCATION FINANCE: We have been strengthening our expertise since 2021 as a designated key research center for education finance by the Ministry of Education.

KERI is putting efforts into supporting and developing strategies for expanding public investments in education and improving its efficiency. Bold investment in education finance is necessary for global competitiveness. Since being selected in 2021 for the Humanities and Social Science Research Institute Support Program by the National Research Foundation of Korea, we have played a key role as a key research center under the Ministry of Education, contributing to the formulation of national education finance policies. We strive to suggest effective future-oriented policies that promote educational finance not as a simple expenditure but as a foundational investment in the sustainable development of our society.

REGIONAL EDUCATION COOPERATION: We have been operating the nation’s first interdisciplinary graduate school in regional education cooperation.

KERI pursues education that grows together with the local communities. As a research institute of a flagship national university, our mission also includes contributing to regional development by sharing the university’s knowledge and resources. We aim to revitalize the ecosystem of regional education, such as strengthening connections with the primary and secondary educational institutions, developing lifelong learning programs for residents, establishing education models reflecting regional
characteristics, and building cooperative networks for mutual growth. Notably, through the interdisciplinary graduate in regional education
cooperation, about 17 educators from the Gangwon State Office of Education have enhanced their educational competencies each year
since 2021 through specialized training.

FUTURE EDUCATION: Since 2024, we have been leading digital talents development based on the DIGITAL SESAK (Digital Seedlings) Project.

We are focusing our efforts on nurturing future leading digital talents. Future education must focus on cultivating students’ competencies to think independently, solve problems, and create new values. The Future Education Center develops interdisciplinary educational programs designed to foster critical thinking, communication, and collaboration skills necessary for AI and digital transformation. Since 2024, we have been successfully operating the Digital SESAK Project and leading the development of future digital talents in the local communities.

Through efficient management of education finance, bold investments for future education, and close cooperation with the local communities, Kangwon National University Education Research Institute aims to contribute not only to Gangwon State but also to the advancement of education across Korea. We will continue to listen to voices in the educational field, conduct ongoing research, and present practical solutions. We need your continued interest and support. Thank you.
